Another way in which the genre is connoted is through the comedic elements given through the positioning. The music of the opening title sequence references the title, “Grease”.
The genre of American horror story is shown. through the opening title sequence in many ways. The genre is shown by the iconic horror imagery. These include the skulls, blood, old photos, etc. These shows can connote a genre of horror to the audience. The use of the fast-paced editing can also connote a genre of horror. It helps to bring confusion which adds a sense of mystery to the opening scene and series. The font used in the opening title sequence connotes a genre of horror. The font is gothic and overwhelming which can connote a genre of horror.
The tone for American horror story is set in the opening title sequence. The tone is set through the use of the non-diegetic soundtrack which creates tones of darkness and violence. The key iconic horror imagery of skulls, blood and old children connotes tones of darkness and violence. The use of the abstract imagery connotes tones of mystery and the unknown. The font is overwhelming and gothic.
I will first talk about the opening title sequence of American horror story. The time that this movie is set in can be suggested both modern time and the past. The both modern items as well as the past items can connote being set in both the past and the present times. It can be assumed that we might switch between the past and the present over the series.
The location that grease can be connoted as being in is America this is shown through the iconic American history shown in the opening title sequence. The location can also be guessed as being in a high school. We can guess this due to the ending of the opening title sequence being at a highschool and it is where it changes from cartoon to real life.
There are hints to the narrative inside the opening title sequence to American horror story. It can be suggested that we will look into history due to the old pictures and other old objects. It can also be implied as from the POV shots we will see the story at some point through the eyes of the killer or the prey. The gothic font can connote the narrative as being a gothic narrative. The abstract images and soundtrack can suggest the narrative will be an abstract narrative.
Sandy is introduced in the opening title sequence in lots of different ways. Sandy is the binary opposite to Danny. The fairytail aspects presented in the opening title sequence can shows her beauty and naiveness. The animated animals helping Sandy get ready can connote her being like a Disney princess. This can imply her being a very nice and kind person who isn't mean to anyone. The (actor) as (character) adds to the theatrical (musical) theme.
In the opening title sequence to American horror story we can assume that we will see a villain inside of the episodes. Through the old photos and other creepy things it can be suggested as there being a supernatural being expressed throughout the episodes. It can be connoted that we will see victims and prey from the past and present. The scissor person as well as the dress that can suggest an innocent stereotypical victim can be implied as being seen in the episodes.
