We used the shot of the camera panning from Mike walking across a tree to show daisy hiding and making the weapon (putting the rocks in the sock). Showing how close the hunter is to seeing the girl shows the danger she is in. This helps to build tension and suspense in the sequence.
Another shot that builds tension and suspense is when we edited the hunter to look at the tree Daisy is behind and her have to quickly hide behind the tree. How we edited these shots together helps to build the suspense in the sequence.
On Thursday when only me and Daisy (the one in our group not the actress) were there we got the audio from the built in microphone and the directional microphone and picked which one of them was best then deleted the one we didn't like. We copied the one we liked and placed it where the audio we didn't like was originally placed. We then added constant power and constant to transition from one audio to the other so it didn't sound weird as the shots didn't all sound the same.
In free time I worked on the audio that we couldn't find on the day or audio that we filmed that needed to be improved.
audio I added/ enhanced:
- I added a gun shot to the sequence - as we couldn't actually shoot a gun in the sequence and we also couldn't record us shooting a gun I had to find gun shot audio in the library of sounds on the computer. I added these as we needed to hear a gun shot so we know why Zaza fell to the ground in the sequence.
- I added a knife cut to the edit - As when Zaza was getting killed it was very quiet we had to add a sound of a knife cutting so it sounded like Zaza's throat was being slit. We might not have had to add this is Zaza made a loud scream/ noise but as she didn't we had to fill in the silence which made it feel off.
- I added footsteps of walking in a forest to the sequence - in the sequence you can hear the hunters walking but i added foot step sounds of someone walking in the forest to enhance the footstep which also gets the audience to focus on them as it helps to build tension.
- I added thuds to when the hunter was being hit by the weapon and the gun butt - As the weapon didn't have real rocks in it it didn't make a noise when Mike's head was hit with it. In real life if they were real rocks it would have made a noise. To make it feel more real i added in thuds for when he is hit to make the weapon sound more real. I changed the thuds from the hitting Mike with the weapon to hitting him with the end of the gun. I added a heavy sounding thud for the gun end hitting Mike.
- I made the breathing of Daisy when we first meet her louder so that the Audience focuses on her breathing so that we can tell how she is feeling/ her emotions in the situation she is in. The breathing helps to emphasise her emotions in the scene.
I changed the volume of the sounds to make them sound more realistic
problems in the audio was that sometimes the audio was too loud so we would have to adjust it so that it wasn't so loud. Sometimes the audio was too quiet so we would have to adjust the audio to be louder so you could hear it.
The fast cuts between shots is a convention of an action movie which are sequence's genre is action thriller. Our target audience being people who like actions and thrillers would enjoy the sequence as it has lots of conventions of action thrillers.
- it was action filled (convention of an action)
- it had weapons in it [the gun and the knives] (convention of actions and thrillers)
- it had fights in it (conventions of actions and thrillers)
- it contained a cat and mouse chase (conventions of a thriller)
- there was lots of tension and suspense (conventions of a thriller)
- the sequence contained a murder (conventions of a thriller)
suspense in a film/ tv show/ sequence can make it very gripping and make the audience want to carry on watching so they can find out what happens. In our sequence there is lots of tension which helps to keep the sequence entertaining for the audience.
we spent Fridays lesson working on naming and putting the titles into the sequence
the titles we picked:
- the title of the movie
- the director
- the money/ finance for the movie
- the studio
we used pre-made templates of the titles in a title sequence to create out titles. We picked the colour of the titles to be yellow as it looks really cool and it can connote happiness. This it opposed in the sequence as there is no positive things happening.
The title of the film is:
"This is the day"We edited so that the title comes on word by word rather than all at once. This makes the title more dramatic and cooler.
On Thursdays lesson we added one little soundtrack to the start of the sequence where Zaza is being chased by the hunters. On Friday's lesson we composed a soundtrack for our sequence. Cole made the soundtrack while we carried on editing the sounds and the titles for our sequence. On Mondays lesson we put the sound track onto the sequence and found out that it didn't fit the theme/ tone that we wanted for the sequence. It was too calm. We spent the activities on Monday adding another soundtrack onto the sequence. We originally had 2 soundtracks but we ended up making the second soundtrack be played throughout the whole sequence. Having one continuous soundtrack sound much better and make the sequence much better because the two soundtracks clashed and made the tone of the sequence be really confusing. We chose the soundtrack as it fit the tone of the sequence very well and helped to improve the sequence and make it even better than it originally was. We changed the volume of the soundtrack at certain points to make sound effects and sounds more impactful and the soundtrack would have taken the focus away. the drums at the end of the soundtrack hits when the hunters head gets hit for the last time which stops the soundtrack where there is no soundtrack again in the rest of the sequence. The drums emphasise the whack from the weapon.
we didn't include any effects onto our sequence
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that our final opening sequence looks very good. Even though we have some things that we are not a super fan of and things that we can improve i still think that the final result is much better than i thought i would be able to produce.
One thing that we could have improved is the shot of when Zaza gets her throat slit. In that shot we were only able to do once because of the fake blood when the hunter brings the knife across her neck the knife can clearly be seen bending. I think that we should have done that shot like the real shot but without the fake blood recorded it and then watched the footage back on the day (even though its a rule that you don't do that) so that we could find any problems that happened, like the knife bending, and fix the problem for when we record with the fake blood.
All the actors were very good at acting which helped the sequence to look really good. if you have a bad actor in the sequence it can end up making the sequence look bad and not professional. just one person can bring the whole sequence down. The fact that all of our actors acting really well made the sequence look really good and give the right tones.
