review of our test shoot

This is my groups opening scene that I will reviewing 

My group talked together and made notes about what we thought of the opening scene

I think that the test shoot went well and looks good. I think that we all put in lots of effort and it is very good for the first shoot of our idea of opening scene 

We didn't think that the plot of the scene was that clear. We thought that the camera work could have been better used to present the plot clearer. Camera angles, movements and composition if used effectively can be used to clearly show a plot well. The costumes of the hunters and the girls didn't show the roles that they were playing effectively so didn't show the plot of the girl being the hunted who then ends up kill the hunter. It looks more like a girl killing a man who has a gun. The lack of props made it quite hard to actually show what was happening in the scene which in turn didn't make the plot that clear.

We thought that some of the things we did worked well. The location of where we filmed, a wooded area of the school, was good as in the real opening scene we want to shoot it in a forest. The location being in the wooded area helps us visualise what the location of out scene will look like and if any challenges arose in the woods then when we shot the real scene we could do things differently to combat them. Another thing that worked well was that we were able to show a rough outline of what will happen in the scene and we could see if the scene worked well and looked right. 

We talked about if we thought the scene was engaging and if so why we thought it was engaging. The kills that happen in the scene at the start and end of the scene makes the scene engaging. having a kill at the start of the scene is straight action which is very engaging for an audience and makes them want to see more. 

We talked about if we thought we were able to create tension in the scene. We believe that we should have used different camera shots and compositions to create more tension in the scene. We think that we were lacking tension in the scene. 

We talked about what we think we should change to improve the scene. We think that we need to change the camera angles, compositions and movements to make the scene more engaging and build more tension in the scene. When we have the actual costumes for the actors/ characters the plot will will be clearer and the scene will make more sense. The make-up/ practical effect that we will apply to the actors will make the scene more engage and overall make the plot clearer and better. The props need to be added and look like what they are supposed to be. when this happens that plot will be clearer and we can actually see that the men have guns which can make them actually look they are hunters. We need to change the order of the shots. The change can make the scene more suspenseful/ tense as well as make the plot clearer.

The scene only lasts only one minute and twenty second which is too short. The opening scene needs to be a minimum length of two minutes. To combat this we will make shots longer and add more shots to the scene. 

Our groups showed out test shoot to our teacher and he gave us some feedback and advice for what we can change/ do when we do our actual shoot for out final opening scene.

Our teacher really enjoyed our opening scene and thought it was a very good concept and was shot well but he did have some things he said could be done to improve it even more 

He thought that we could have made the opening part ,of the girl getting her throat slit, longer by adding in a struggle from the girl but then ending still with her throat getting slit. We have added the girl crawling away from the hunters and trying to escape trying to scream but getting her throat slit, ending her misery. Adding this to the scene will make it longer which will combat out lack of length of the whole scene.

Our teacher thought that it was confusing on my the hunters slit up in the first place. He suggested adding to the scene why the hunters split up. Our combat to that is to add a little dialogue where the hunters say that the main character is the last one and whichever of the two hunters kills her wins the hunt. Adding this to the scene will make it longer which will combat out lack of length of the whole scene.

The teacher was saying how if the girl is the main character, we need to see more of the girl than of the hunter who gets killed. We will add more shots of the girl to connote her being the main character as well as adding more length to the scene. Adding this to the scene will make it longer which will combat out lack of length of the whole scene. We will add more shot like showing her preparing to kill the hunter

These preparation shots can be used to suggest that she is not a normal girl. It will suggest her having experience/ practice/ knowledge in a field (e.g. the army, the navy, etc). We will show shots of her bandaging herself which can show that she is experienced and knows what she is doing and isn't nervous in what she has to do. Adding shots of the girl watching the hunter will help bring tension to the scene and make it more gripping and interesting.
