what is story boarding

why is it important?

- after filming

who's it important for ?

before filming is most important

Before filming

  • helps you to plan out your camera work
  • visual plan
  • helps to communicate and organise a crew around the directors vision
  • consider mise-en-scene choices
  • spend far more time planning then on set , organised and take full advantage of production
  • make sure the story flows through editing

After filming
  • editing guide post-production

what is on a story board
  1. shot number
  2. location
  3. action
  4. shot/ movement
  5. sound
  6. lighting
  7. transitions
  8. timing
- remember framing and composition (foreground, background, rule of thirds, etc)

- take into account the 180 degree rule

- think about if the shot will work when edited together
